Poppies adorned the front of the school

Remembrance Service 2016

11 November 2016

On Friday, 11th November, the children gathered on the gravel at the front of the school for our Remembrance Service. All of them looked smart in theri uniforms, caps and hats and of course, poppies in their lapels.

Each of the large poppies hanging from the windows at the fron of the school, had poems about the loss and tragedy of war and of how we should remember those who fought and died in all wars.

The war poetry read by some of the children was moving, especially some that had been written by the children themselves, showing such an understanding of the tragedies of war.

Several of our invited neighbours attended the service. I received a letter shortly afterwards from one who wrote to thank me saying:

"... The service was exemplary and poignant and all the children seemed moved by this occasion.... the presence of the bugler emphasised this austere and sombre annual celebration."

As Headmaster it is heartening to know that our children understand this occasion so well and are able to show such respect.
