Around the World in 80 Days

10 July 2017

On the Thursday, 22nd  of June, Year 6 staged an unmissable performance of Around the World in Eighty Days.

For this adventure we go back to 1873 where the rich, gambling Englishman Phileas Fogg (Joshie Titchen) makes a wager to travel the world in eighty days with his new, faithful valet Jean Passepartout (Ava Manketo). On the way they meet interesting cultures and people like the Indian princesses Aouda (Ayesha) - who almost gets sacrificed - and her twin Gouda (Effie). The part was originally written for just one princess but Mr Taylor changed it. Along the way a mischievous Captain James Fix (Mattie) keeps trying to foil their plans. Even Queen Victoria (Isla Shaw) puts money on them succeeding in their gamble! And they even meet a splendid dancing elephant Eugene (Franci Olivieri) - Mr Fogg was not pleased with that one little bit!

My favourite scene was the one with the Mormon farmer with a lot of wives, and guess who that was (cough cough, it was me!)

The rehearsals were long and tiring because of the scorching 34 degree heat but our hard work really paid off in the end. The amount of costume changing was a little stressful but ultimately we were prepared for the performance. I would like to give a big thank you to Mr Taylor and Mr Estorninho for helping us look and sound amazing on stage, and to Mrs Eldon-Ford and Mrs Acus for their help with the set design. Overall the parents loved it, Year 6 loved it and we all had a great time.
