Welcoming International Families to Kew Green Preparatory School

Since opening in 2004, Kew Green Preparatory School and Nursery (KGPS) has warmly welcomed pupils from around the world. We have extensive experience supporting families relocating to London, whether permanently or for a temporary assignment, and we strive to make the transition to KGPS as smooth as possible. Our approach is tailored to each family’s needs, ensuring a seamless and positive experience.

We offer a strong support system for children whose first language is not English, helping them to integrate quickly and confidently. Our strong school community ensures that all our families feel welcome, included and very much part of our team.

A Thoughtful Admissions Process

Where possible, we encourage international families to visit us in person before offering a place. For children entering from Reception – Year 6, we request school reports in advance. If we are unable to meet the children in-person, we will arrange a remote meeting before an offer is made. For children entering from Year 4 – Year 6, we carry out an evaluation paper in Maths and English which allows us to identify any learning gaps and advise on how we can best support their transition.

To help children prepare for their start at KGPS, we work closely with families between the time of acceptance and their first day at school.

A Supportive Community

We understand that moving to a new country can be both exciting and challenging. To help with the transition, we connect new families with current or past KGPS parents of the same nationality, offering valuable insights into both the school experience and life in Kew and London.

Our close-knit parent community is known for its warmth and hospitality. Families often extend invitations to social gatherings, picnics, and other events, making it easy for newcomers to feel at home. Additionally, we have strong relationships with local estate agents and are happy to connect families with them for relocation assistance. At KGPS, we are proud to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment where international families quickly feel a sense of belonging, and children thrive in their new school setting.
