Kew Green Prep Pupils Triumph at Epsom College Public Speaking Competition

Pupils at Kew Green Preparatory School have demonstrated outstanding academic confidence, communication skills and teamwork, winning the prestigious Epsom College Public Speaking Competition.

In December 2025, every pupil in Year 5 took part in an internal public speaking competition, presenting their speeches to their English groups.

Following an impressive first round, numbers were narrowed to three semi-finalists from each group, who then delivered their speeches in front of the entire year group. Judges Ms Bennett, Mr Reed and Mr Harrington had the challenging task of selecting just three finalists to represent KGPS at the competition.

After a closely contested round, Ela, Harrison and Maddie were chosen.

The trio worked closely with Ms Bennett to refine their speech, and developed their ideas, strengthened their delivery and built their confidence to perform on a larger stage.

The team created a humorous and imaginative speech entitled “Eating Sweets is Virtually the Same as Eating Fruit.” Maddie was Chair and spoke for one minute, followed by Ela as the Main Speaker, who spoke for three-minutes and Harrison concluded with the Vote of Thanks, speaking for one minute.

On 4 March, the KGPS team travelled to Epsom College, where they competed against nine other preparatory schools. Topics ranged from “Why Playtimes Should Be Longer” to “AI in the Classroom.”

Thanks to their clarity, humour, confidence and exceptional teamwork, the Kew Green Prep pupils delivered a truly memorable performance. And the result? KGPS won the competition!

Congratulations to Ela, Maddie and Harrison on a fantastic achievement.
