Year 6 Enterprise Fair 2026
This summer term, Year 6 pupils at Kew Green Prep are swapping their textbooks for business plans as they take on one of the most exciting and rewarding projects of their final year at the school: the Enterprise Fair 2026. Following the conclusion of 11+ exams, our Year 6 cohort is rolling up its sleeves to launch a series of pupil-run businesses, each one designed, marketed and managed entirely by the children themselves.
Working in groups of four to six, the pupils have been challenged to devise an original product or game, develop it from concept to finished stall and sell it to a school-wide audience of customers spanning Reception through to Year 5, as well as teachers and parents. From the very first lesson, the children have been firmly in the driving seat. Each group has completed a detailed business plan, outlining their idea, equipment needs, costings, marketing strategy and predicted profits, before submitting it to staff for sign-off.
The project blends creativity with real-world rigour. Pupils benefit from a Graphic Design workshop led by our Head of Art and DT, sharpening their advertising posters and stall branding, and a Money Matters workshop delivered by a parent working in finance, introducing the children to the fundamentals of bank accounts, saving, debit and credit cards, and how to stay safe from fraud.
What makes the Enterprise Fair so special at Kew Green Prep is its strong charitable heart. Every group selects a charity close to their interests, researches its work and produces a PowerPoint to share with their year group. After the fair, the children write letters to their chosen charities, explaining exactly how they raised their donations.
On the day, customers purchased tokens, sold at 50p each in the mornings and at pick-up, to spend at the stalls. The pupils had an hour after lunch to set up before opening at 2pm, with the fair running until 4pm. Each group nominated a responsible ‘banker’ to look after their money box and every member was expected to stay for the all-important clear-up.
Beyond the buzz of the day itself, the Enterprise Fair develops invaluable life skills: teamwork, leadership, financial literacy, creative problem-solving, resilience and the satisfaction of giving back. It is a fitting send-off for our Year 6 pupils as they prepare to move on to senior school, and a wonderful celebration of the confident, enterprising young people Kew Green Prep is so proud to nurture.
