History, Geography & RE

Humanities

History plays an important role in the curriculum. The children are exposed to both Ancient and Modern History throughout their time at Kew Green. It is taught in a fun and interactive way. 'Learning through doing’ is our motto.

Dressing up and role play form an integral part of the History curriculum, as do themed Topic Days, where children live ‘A Day in the Life Of’, immersing themselves in the lives of the people and cultures they are studying. With this also comes the knowledge and understanding of dates and events that have helped to shape our world today.

Learning about Geography that is relevant to each child is a crucial part of their early development. It allows children to place themselves in the context of the wider world and gives them a sense of identity. All the children will be aware of their location in relation to the rest of the local area, to London and to other places in the UK, Europe and the rest of the world.

Religious Education (RE)

We are a non-denominational school with a caring Christian ethos which embraces the multi-cultural community in which we live. Kew Green Preparatory School embraces a philosophy where key values of tolerance and mutual respect are at the forefront of all we do. We provide the children with an opportunity to share and respect their beliefs and practices.

We teach RE on a weekly basis and cover all of the six main world religions. As a part of our cross curricular education, we take part in celebrating festivals such as Diwali, Christmas and Chinese New Year incorporating them into all subjects. We have strong links with St. Anne’s church on Kew Green where we celebrate various festivals and hold concerts.
